Pacific Loon

This Pacific Loon showed up at the lake today.  Appears to be a first summer bird.  It probably got caught up in the high winds on a trip from the Salton Sea or (more likely) the Sea of Cortez to the coast and took refuge at Jacumba.  This is a rare bird inland.

At my water feature, above, a nice female Lawrence’s Goldfinch.

Below, a Black-chinned Hummingbird.  I also had a nice male Rufous hummer.

Six Orioles - Hooded and Bullock's

There were so many orioles at my feeders this afternoon that I lost track of them.  At least 12 birds.  Here we see them squabbling over the jelly feeder.

Thee were five of these guys at my feeders today.  Three males and two  females.

Today’s Birds:

Oak titmouse, Wilson’s warbler (5), Orange-crowned warbler, Nashville Warbler, Yellow-rumped warbler, Western bluebird, Harris’ hawk, Chipping sparrow, Warbling vireo, Tricolored blackbird (50), Bullock’s oriole (8), Hooded oriole (7), Black-headed grosbeak (5), Lawrence’s goldfinch, Eared grebe, Pacific loon, Rufous , Black-chinned and Anna’s hummers.
