The Chinese Castle

I got a tour of the red “Chinese Castle” today.  Easily the most iconic building in Jacumba, it sits perched up on a rock pile just south of town.  Its undergoing a process of rehabilitation, which wil probalby take several years.  The living room has an almost-level boulder for a floor.  An indoor pool needs a lot of work, but will be nice when its completed.

My husband and it were lucky enough to find the Chinese castle in jacumba on our way back to Sedona from San Diego. What a desert gem! The owners were on site busy with the rehab project that will surely carry them through their “golden years” and we’re gracious enough to give us a fine tour of the house in its improving condition. The rehab is thoughtful in that they are attempting to carry the architecture and historical presence of the house with as much authenticity as possible. The views from almost anywhere are stunning, showcasing the beauty of the desert surrounds. Andy and Cherry were enthusiastc and informative guides and made our exploration of Jacumba the highlight of our trip home!
